Get Your Sniff On! Starting your dog in scent direction / nose work activities

This is an hour and a half seminar comprised of a combination of lecture material and demo dogs. Some of our demo dogs are new to the sport and others have previous competition experience. Topics discussed will include:
- What is nose work and why any dog can benefit from the sport, specifically dogs that need a job or to gain more confidence, an seniors who need some mental stimulation.
- When the sport started and how competition works.
- How to teach dogs to start searching and building a drive to search.
- How it builds on the bond between you and your dog and help observation skills.
- Success stories and how you can join a class near you.

The Basics of Regenerative Medicine
Wednesday, August 22nd; 7:00 -8:30pm; Rehabilitation and Performance Center
Speaker: Abimbola Oshin, DVM, MS, MBA, CVPM, MRCVS, DACVS, DECVS
This lecture will explore the basics of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells, and how these treatments can be used to assist with healing after fractures or joint pain/arthritis. The topics will include preparation, administration, cost and expected benefits.

The Basics of Massage and Stretching Workshop
Wednesday, September 19th; 7:00 – 8:30pm; rehabilitation and Performance Center
Speaker: Lisa Bedenbaugh, PT, CCRP
This is a one hour and a half hour seminar comprised of a combination of lecture material and hands-on lab time (working spot). Topics discussed will include:
- Basic muscle anatomy and physiology
- Benefits of massage and stretching
- Correct timing for massage and stretching
- Basic massage techniques
Lab sessions will include videos detailing basic stretches and common areas of tightness n the forelimbs and hind limbs. Participants will be guided through the stretches and massage techniques with the assistance of trained staff members, and there will be time for questions throughout the seminar.
Audit Spots ($25 each) allows participants to attend the lecture and observe during the lab sessions.
Working Spots ($50 each) allows one handler and one dog access to the lecture and to participate hands-on during the lab sessions. Please bring a mat, blanket, etc. that can be placed on the floor for comfort during the lab portions of the seminar (we have a rubber mat floor in the facility) and treats (if needed) to help your dog focused during the lab sessions.
All dogs brought in for working spots must be able to crate quietly or lay by their owners during the lecture portions and must be able to work with their owner during the lab sessions with other dogs in the vicinity (there will be rom to spread out a little during the lab). If an owner’s pet becomes disruptive, the owner may be asked to crate their pet in their car or another room.
Chairs for attendees will be provided, as well as water for both humans and dogs.

Disc Doggin! How to get your dog started in disc sports
Thursday, October 25th; 7:00 – 8:30pm; Rehabilitation and Performance Center

This will be an hour and a half course that will be part lecture describing the characteristics I look for in a dog to be a future disc player; the steps get your dog started in sport of canine disc, and which discs are canine safe to use during disc play. There will also be demonstrations on these steps and various other stages of disc play.

Fitness and Conditioning Workshop
Sunday, November 11th; 9:00 – 1:00pm; Rehabilitation and Performance Center
Speaker: Lia Bedenbaugh, PT, CCRP
This is a 4-hour lecture and lab workshop which will introduce students to:
- Active warm-up and cool down exercises
- Strengthening exercises using peanut balls, discs and other exercise equipment
- Basic stretches
Those booking Working Spots will have the opportunity to practice the exercises under the guidance of experienced canine therapists, to check for correct form and provide helpful pointers. This is course is designed for those with sporting dogs, looking for more information on how to develop a conditioning program, as well as for the average pet owner, looking to maintain their dog’s health and fitness level.
Audit Spots ($40 each) allows participants to attend the lecture and observe during the lab sessions.
Working Spots ($80 each) allows one handler and one dog access to the lecture and to participate hands-on during the lab sessions.
